What was the highlight of Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero Hotel
Wouldnt go back if you paid me!
The beach is lovely. We were staying at the Sanctuary so it has its own section (adults only).
We arrived after a long journey. We were nicely greeted by a buggy who took us to the Sanctuary reception and handed a glass of fizz. After that it went completely wrong. The receptionist had a face like thunder and told us that they had not had conformation of our payment to booking.com. She said I had to pay a deposit of one night by cash (300 Cuban CUC). I refused I had already paid the money for 3 nights a week earlier - I said if she gave me internet access I would log onto my bank to prove the payment, She then wanted a credit card payment which they would reverse the next day - if payment was confirmed. After a long argument I gave them a card to keep but not process. This really ruined the start of our holiday. The next day it was all smiles - yes we have your money - here's you card back. The toilet seat was broken, the loo roll holder was broken, there was no hot water. After 9pm (which it was by the time we had cleared reception) you can only get room service or a snack bar in the main complex. They had no gin! We had a optic bar in our room and fridge but no glasses. You have to book into the restaurants in advance or eat in the big halls (reminded me of being at school) and the food is underwhelming and luke warm. After my list of complaints they did fix the toilet seat, put glasses in the room and a bottle of gin in the optic bar. We paid £225 per night (£300 plus CUC). We were due to go back on the 27th but cancelled the reservation. I managed to get a lovely hotel in Matanzas at 87 CUC for the night for a suite with hot water - a 3 course meal at a lovely restaurant nearby was 58 CUC and included a bottle of wine and was hot!

Nice location but needs improvement
Beach, drinks were good, the overall layout of rooms, pool and restaurants was good. Staff is the best part
Fix stinky sewer gas! Enough lounge chairs around pool and better quality food. Butler service did not help getting a good dinner reservation time

What was the highlight of Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero Hotel
I feel it was sub par, would not recommend to friends or family.
The staff are struggling to offer services to the clients. Fresh pineapples up the beach but resort served mixed powdered juice similar to tang! Our room had a horrible fishy smell which we complained about everyday. Offer to move us came at day 5 of 7 day stay. Food on the menus were often not available. eg. no stuffed pasta at Italian restaurant, no bananas for banana pancakes, no ice at beach bar!!!.
I feel they are advertising a 5 star establishment but once you are there you are only receiving a 3 star. Very overpriced and they are obviously still recovering from hurricane. Our door on our unit looked like it had been busted and kicked in. Not very reassuring when you are staying in a strange place and this is your security. They offer a butler at your service but he really has no say. Must wait for his manager to make those decisions and usually by the time message is passed on it is too late to fix it. Beach is very windy and water is rougher than closer to Varadaro town.

Very good adults only option.
* King size bed - very comfortable * Big, spacious rooms * Adults only section was very calm and relaxing, there were plenty of room * Nice beach area * Food was good - though better in buffee restraunt in common are than in a'la carte * bar and restraunt staff very friendly. Buffee was amazing - lot's and lot's of choices - seafood, meat, fruits etc.
* staff on adults only reception not the nicest - we had our issues while cheking in but also when we wanted to order meal to our room - gentlman on phone took our order and we waited for hour - when we called back to ask about when it's coming he said that we did not say our room nr ??! He did not call back or anything + we know for sure that reception can see room nr, when calling - so not very professional * room service food which is included in room price was poor quality
